End-of-Year Exam Survival Guide
How to prepare without burning out
Exam season is stressful, but it doesn't have to break you. The students who do best aren't the ones who study the most โ they're the ones who study smart.
Start with the Exam Format
Find out exactly what your exam looks like โ multiple choice, short answer, essay, open book? This determines your study strategy. A multiple-choice exam needs breadth of knowledge; an essay exam needs depth. Don't prepare the same way for both.
Active Recall Beats Re-Reading
Re-reading notes feels productive but research shows it's one of the least effective study methods. Instead, test yourself: write everything you remember about a topic, then check what you missed. Flashcard apps like Anki (free) make this efficient.
The 2-3-1 Method
Two weeks before exams: review all content. One week before: practise past papers under timed conditions. Three days before: focus only on weak spots. The day before: light review and rest. Cramming the night before consistently lowers performance.
Protect Your Body
Sleep 7+ hours, eat proper meals, and exercise for 20 minutes daily during exam weeks. These aren't luxuries โ they're study tools. Sleep is when your brain consolidates what you learned. Skipping it undoes your study.
